The Course

The fear of flying can cause a person to suffer from extreme fear, panic attacks, nausea and even anticipatory vomiting before the flight, during the flight, and even just by thinking about flying. While the fear of flying is debilitating to the person, increased knowledge of human psychology enables us to successfully help individuals overcome their fear. Our “beat the fear of flying” program is specifically designed to help you overcome your fear of flying in one of the most comprehensive programs available in South Africa.

The Course

The “beat the fear of flying” course is specifically designed to help you beat the fear by educating you about the origins of your fear, how your fear works, teaching you cognitive as well as behavioural techniques to help you take control not only of your fear of flying but general anxieties as well, and finally practically taking you on a practical flight to solidify you sense of control over flying.

Session 1 – Introductory , psychological assessment, and practical techniques

During the 1st session, our specialist psychologist will guide you through the treatment process and highlight the key areas that need to be worked on in order to overcome and take control over your fear. During the first introductory session an assessment of your needs will be made and all your questions will be addressed and answered. You will be introduced to specialised techniques designed specifically to help you gain control in flight. These psychological techniques will be explained and practiced in the session in order to make sure that you have mastered them all. In this session you will be educated as to what anxiety is and most importantly how to take control over it.

Session 2 – Q & A

For the first time you will be introduced to our professional pilot and captain. Here you will get ALL your flying questions answered, from: why the wings move? To, can the airplane land on water? Our captain will make you feel informed and secure about your next flight. Remember, fear is driven by misinformation; this is why this stage of any treatment program is paramount.

Some of the questions that will be answered during the sessions are:

  • Do the wings move?
  • Would the pilot having a bad day affect the flight?
  • Do the all pilots on board have appropriate qualifications?
  • Is it possible that the aircraft land on water?
  • Why can’t you close the window blinds during takeoff and landing?
  • Why do the engines make such a load noise?
  • Is it possible for the engine to set on fire?
  • What if the engines fail?
  • If the plane electricity turns off what happens?
  • Can the captain get lost?
  • Have you ever wondered what turbulence is?
  • What effects does turbulence have on the plane?
  • Why do we have safety instructions and briefings ?
  • What happens if the Captain has to communicate with non-English speaking air traffic controllers?
  • Why do my ears make that strange noise when flying?
  • Is it possible for the plane to collide into another plane in mid air?
  • What is auto pilot and how does it work?
  • What if there is a medical emergency on board?
  • Why are there so many noises on Board?
  • Why do I have falling feeling during takeoff?
  • Are there unpredictable problems on the plane?
